Hyperhydrosis

Hyperhydrosis

Hyperhydrosis or excessive sweating is a condition that affects the amount of perspiration produced by the body. It is a common problem for men and women and is estimated to affect 1-2% of the population.

The cause of excessive sweating is not really known however it is thought to be hereditary and other factors can play a role; certain foods and drinks, nicotine, caffeine, and smells can trigger a response. The condition can leave the affected areas constantly damp making everyday activities difficult to carry out and inevitably causing embarrassment to the sufferer.

There is a quick and simple treatment available using a product known as Botox® or Vistabel®. This product is normally used for treating facial frown lines and wrinkles but Botox® is FDA approved for severe underarm sweating that is inadequately managed with topical agents. It is effective in preventing the sweat glands from producing excess levels of sweat.

The treatment is quick and simple to perform and can reduce and almost eliminate sweating for around 6 months.*

Anyone who suffers from the condition known as Hyperhydrosis or excessive sweating can consider this quick and effective treatment.
If you are self conscious about your excessive perspiration and it is making everyday activities difficult to carry out then don’t suffer anymore. Botox is one of the most effective, long lasting and minimally invasive treatments that puts a stop to excessive sweating.
Whether you want to feel fresh at work, have a special occasion coming up or you simply find the summer months unbearable, this treatment will reduce perspiration levels allowing you to get on and enjoy life without having to worry about unattractive sweat patches.
If you fall into any of these categories don’t hesitate to contact us in order to book your free consultation today with our experienced doctor.
The treatment involves injecting tiny amounts of Botox® in a grid pattern directly on the affected areas, this results in temporarily blocking the sweat glands and preventing perspiration.

Because a very fine needle is used most patients find that there is only mild and temporary discomfort. The entire treatment usually takes no longer than 30 minutes.

This treatment has been used on over 1 million patients worldwide for almost 20 years and is supported by a wealth of long-term safety data.
Botox® aims to reduce sweating by up to 80% and is best for controlling sweating symptoms in the underarms, face and hands.

The effects of the treatment usually last at least 6 months. Following repeated treatments, the effects tend to last for a longer period of time. Your Doctor will discuss with you the results which you can expect to see and advise repeat treatments that will be suitable for you.
Side effects of Hyperhydrosis treatment are rare – indeed it is one of the safest cosmetic procedures available. However, there is the possibility of inadequate injection technique resulting in the treatment being injected or dispersed by massaging the area, this can cause a temporary weakness and is why it’s so important to have your treatment at a clinic which is registered.

When the treatment begins to work, you may notice some temporary strange “sensations” around the treated areas as the muscles that have not been injected adjust.

Studies have not been performed on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Although treatments are not thought to be dangerous, treatment is best avoided during this time.

If you have any diseases, involving nerve damage or muscle weakness, Hyperhydrosis treatment is not recommended. It is also important to let the Doctor know if there is a family history of such diseases.

Patients who are currently being treated with amino glycoside antibiotics or spectinomycin should wait until they have completed their course of treatment, and anyone who has had an allergic reaction to human albumin should not have Hyperhydrosis treatment.
