Winter is well and truly here with the brilliant sunshine a distant memory. The mornings are bleak, the afternoons are dark and a mist seems to cling to the sky. Gone are our glowing complexions and bronzed bodies.
The weather may be grey but our skin doesn’t have to be. The perfect pick me up is a Fake Bake spray tan.
I know what you’re thinking, the last thing you want before Christmas is to look like you have been tangoed! I completely agree. There is nothing worse than an orange, streaky tan to completely ruin your day. Luckily, the Fake Bake formula works with the pigmentation in your skin to give a natural looking tan. You also have the option to choose between different shades.
The original Fake Bake spray is perfect if you want to look like you have just stepped off the beach. If you want something deeper then you can always opt for the darker spray tan liquid.
Fake Bake sprays are also free from parabens and artificial preservatives, instead opting for a naturally-derived formula. You will also notice the smell is far more pleasant than other spray tans available. This is something that Fake Bake prides itself on.
If you are unsure, the trained professionals at Bodilight are more than happy to help and offer advice on what is best for you.
You can book in for an appointment or pop in for a quick chat with one of the ladies.
So you have booked your appointment, what next? Preparation is key and putting in the effort before ensures even application. It will also help to extend the life of your tan. A patch test is recommended, especially if you haven’t used this product before so get this done 48 hours before your appointment.
Any hair removal, like shaving or waxing, should be done 24 hours prior to your appointment. This gives your skin a chance to heal and calm down before the tan is applied. Bear in mind that any hair removal done after your tan will simply just remove it.
EXFOLIATE! A crucial step in the fake tanning process! Exfoliation is going to remove any dead skin cells and give a lovely smooth and even surface for the tan to be applied. Use exfoliation gloves and a scrub that does not contain a lot of oil. (You will see why a bit further down!) Don’t forget to pay attention to those tricky areas like the elbows and knees.
On the day of your spray tan it is a good idea to avoid moisturising your skin. The oil in your moisturiser will create a barrier between the tan and your skin. Although it may leave your skin feeling super soft, it is not ideal for tanning. Steer clear of deodorants and perfumes as these can react with the tanning spray and no one wants green armpits!
If you are planning on tanning face as well, a good idea is to put a little Vaseline in your eyebrows…the one place you do want to create a barrier from the tan!
A cold shower before you go to the salon will tighten your skin and close your pores, helping to create a smooth surface for your tan to be applied.
Once you have been sprayed and you are suitably tanned, baggy, dark clothes are your best option for putting back on. Ideally you would just walk around waiting for it to set but who has that kind of time? Loose clothes will allow the tan to sit on your skin without rubbing off on to your garments. Flip flops are the best option for your feet.
Depending on the tan you have chosen, you will be able to shower it off in 6-8 hours leaving you with a perfect faux-glow.
After all, everything is better with a tan!
